NO To Child Labor-YES To Quality Education!

The World Day Against Child Labor, which is held every year on June 12, is intended to foster the worldwide movement against child labor in any of its forms. The International Labor Organization (ILO), the United Nations body which regulates the world of work, launched the World Day Against Child Labor in 2002 in order to bring attention and join efforts to fight against child labor. This day brings together governments, local authorities, civil society and international, workers and employers organizations to point out the child labor problem and define the guidelines to help child laborers.

The U.S. Mission in Ethiopia focuses on this issue firsthand. From December 2-4, 2014, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Patricia M. Haslach along with Abdulfatah Abdullahi Hassan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, State Minister Zerihun Kebede and Margaret Schuler, Director of World Vision, traveled to the Southern Nations and Nationalities Peoples Region to meet with local officials and visit programs addressing the issue of child labor, among others, supported by the United States government.

In its effort to target the sources of child labor, the United States Department of Labor-supported E-FACE projects implemented by the World Vision aim to improve the overall academic environment in primary schools and thereby significantly increase the likelihood of young students staying in school.  A rousing success, E-FACE is now being phased out and a new project is in the works to focus on follow-on activities related to eliminating all forms of child labor.

According to ILO’s data, hundreds of millions of girls and boys throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them from receiving adequate education, health, leisure and basic freedoms, violating this way their rights. The World Day Against Child Labor provides an opportunity to gain further support of individual governments and local authorities, as well as that of the ILO social partners, civil society and others, in the campaign to tackle child labor.

የህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛን በመቃወም ልጆች ጥራት ያለው ትምህርት እንዲያገኙ እናድርግ!

በየዓመቱ ሰኔ 5 ቀን ታስቦ የሚውለው የዓለም የህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛ የሚወገዝበት ቀን በመላው ዓለም ይህንን ችግር ለመቅረፍ የሚደረገውን እንቅስቃሴ ለማጠናከር የሚደረግ ጥረት ነው፡፡ የተባበሩት መንግሥታት አካል የሆነው ዓለም አቀፉ የሥራ ድርጅት( ILO)፣ በ1994 ዓ.ም. በችግሩ ዙሪያ በየሥራ ዘርፉ ያለውን የህጻናት ብዝበዛ ማስቀረትና የተቀናጀ ጥረት ለመፍጠርይቻል ዘንድ፤ ይህ ቀን ታስቦ እንዲውል ወስኗል፡፡ በመሆኑም በዚህ ዕለት መንግሥታት፣የየአካባቢው ባለሥልጣናት፣የሲቪክ ማህበረሰቦች፣ዓለም አቀፍ ድርጅቶች፣ሠራተኞችና ቀጣሪ ድርጅቶች የህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛ ችግርን በጋራ አጉልተው፤ችግሩን ለመቅረፍ የሚያስችል መመሪያና የጋራ ግንዛቤ ይይዛሉ፡፡

የአሜሪካ ኤምባሲ በዚህ ጉዳይ ላይ በቀጥታ የሚሠራ ሲሆን፤ በኢትዮጵያ የአሜሪካ አምባሳደር የሆኑት ፓትሪሺያ ሃስላክ ከሥራና ማህበራዊ ጉዳዮች ፕሬዚዳንት የተከበሩ አቶ አብዱልፋታህ አብዱላሂ ሐሰን፣ ከሚኒስትር ዲኤታው ከክቡር ዶክተር ዘርይሁን ከበደ፣እንዲሁም ከወርልድ ቪዥን ዳይሬክተር ማርጋሬት ሹለር ጋር በመሆን ወደ ደቡብ ብሔሮች፣ብሔረሰቦችና ሕዝቦች ክልል ከህዳር 23 -25 ቀን 2007 ዓ.ም. በተጓዙበት ወቅት ከየአካባቢው ባለሥልጣናት ጋርተመካክረዋል፤ በጉዳዩ ላይ ያተኮሩ በአሜሪካ መንግሥት የሚደገፉ ፕሮግራሞችን ጎብኝተዋል፡፡

የአሜሪካ መንግሥት የሥራ ሚኒስቴር ችግሩን ከሥሩ ለማድረቅ በሚያደርገው ጥረት፣ከወርልድ ቪዥን ጋር በመተባበር ኢ-ፌስ የተሰኘ ተማሪዎች ከአንደኛ ደረጃ የትምህርት ገበታቸው እንዳይፈናቀሉ እገዛዎችን የሚያደርግና በአጠቃላይ የተማሪዎችን የትምህርት ቤት ቆይታ ዕድል ከፍ በማድረግ ላይ ያተኮረ ፕሮጀክት በማስፈፀም ላይ ይገኛል፡፡ ብዙ ስኬቶችን ያስመዘገበው ይህ ፕሮጀክት በአሁኑ ሰዓት በመጠናቀቅ ላይ ቢሆንም፤ቀጣይ ምዕራፍ ላይ የሚያተኩርና ቀሪ ጉዳዮችን በሚከታተል፣በሁሉም መስኮች የህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛን በማስወግድ ዙሪያ በሚሠራ አዲስ ፕሮጀክት የሚተካ ይሆናል፡፡

በዓለም አቀፉ የሥራ ድርጅት መረጃ መሠረት በዓለም ዙሪያ በሚሊዮኖች የሚቆጠሩ ወንዶችና ሴቶች ልጆች በቂ ትምህርት፣ጤና፣እረፍትና መሠረታዊ ነፃነቶችን እንዳያጣጥሙ በሚያደርጓቸው በተለያዩ ዓይነት የሥራ መስኮች ላይ ተሰማርተው ይገኛሉ፡፡ በመሆኑም ይህ ዓለም አቀፍ የህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛ የሚወገዝበት ቀን፣ መንግሥታት በየፊናቸው፣ሌሎች የዓለም አቀፉ ሥራ ድርጅት አጋሮች፣የየአካባቢው ባለሥልጣናት፣እንዲሁም ሲቪክ ማህበራትና ሌሎች በህጻናት ጉልበት ብዝበዛ ላይ የተከፈተውን ዘመቻ ይበልጥ እንዲያጠናክሩ ጥሩ አጋጣሚ ይፈጥራል፡፡
